Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, is a singer-songwriter and Canadian American. She has released more than 20 albums. DiFranco's music is classified as folk, alternative and rock but she also draws influences of jazz and hip-hop. Ani DiFranco, widely regarded as a feminist icon and Grammy-winning artist is considered the pioneer in DIY music. It was one of the first musicians to start her own label in 1990. DiFranco was born in Buffalo New York on September 23rd of 1970, she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross) and Dante Americo DiFranco The couple had made acquaintance while studying at in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father had Italian heritage and her mother was Montreal-born. Ani Difrasco composed and recorded the song "32 Flavors". The song is featured on her sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. A variation of the track is included on the film soundtrack for 1999's Canadian love story Better Than Chocolate. In 2013, DiFranco apologised after it was revealed that she would be hosting an event for three days in a former Louisiana slave plantation. It was postponed However, many (including the media) did not think it was a sign of regret. DiFranco issued another apology several days afterward. She is known for her Little Folksinger style, but she's worked with many different genres and artists that range from Pete Seeger to Chuck D. New Orleans is her home. Ani DiFranco is married to Kristen Ford. She began writing songs around the age of 14. She performed them at bars and coffee shops throughout her teenage years. DiFranco completed her studies at her Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts high school at 16, and enrolled in courses at Buffalo State College.
